Rekha is the only permanent employee of the LPC, working 23 hours per week and uses the LPC Office as her base. She qualified from University of Bath in 1980 and did a spell in Hospital Pharmacy before entering the Community Pharmacy arena. Her experience in KC and W with both independents and multiples, as an employee, proprietor and locum pharmacist has given her a broad understanding of the practice of pharmacy in Central London.
Rekha is a Member and Vice-Chair of the K&C PCT Professional Executive Committee (PEC). She has chaired the W-PCT Substance Misuse Management in Community Pharmacy Group since 2001. She continues her clinical role, maintaining patient contact by working as a locum to ensure she gets an opportunity to interact with different patients and different skills mix within pharmacies in KC and W.
Her LPC role requires knowledge and understanding of the primary care agenda and pharmacy's potential contribution to this. She says that one of the biggest challenges for her is the need to balance the interests of the pharmacists and contractors in KC and W with the interests of the commissioning bodies (PCTs), whilst at the same time ensuring that the services always keep the 'patient benefit' as its core outcome.
In her spare time she enjoys yoga, music, reading, travel, going to the cinema and theatre, and more recently has fallen victim to the number 1 pastime/addiction! of middle-aged pharmacists - GOLF!
